We are firmly on track towards carbon neutrality in our own operations by 2030. We treat the wastewater from our own production and dispose of our pharmaceutical waste responsibly. We also provide training to professionals and advice consumers. We use only electricity purchased from carbon-free sources in our production, and we invest in energy efficiency and renewable heat and steam.

Climate change is a major challenge, and Orion wants to be part of the solution. We are making steady progress towards carbon neutrality in our own operations. We are also committed to setting science-based emission reduction targets for the entire value chain as part of the collective effort to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. We invest in cooperation to reduce emissions throughout our value chain.

Pharmaceutical residues can pollute the environment and have a negative impact on biodiversity. For this reason, we treat our production wastewater responsibly and promote effective wastewater management in our value chain. We also educate consumers on the appropriate disposal of expired medicines to minimise the amount of pharmaceutical ingredients ending up in the environment.

At Orion, we contribute to reducing the impacts of the pharmaceutical industry on biodiversity. Although the path to solving the crisis is still unknown, we are working together with other actors in the industry to bring about the necessary change.

Promoting the principles of the circular economy is necessary to ensure the sustainable use of natural resources and the mitigation of climate change. Ensuring the safety of pharmaceutical ingredients limits the implementation of the circular economy, but much can still be achieved. Orion focuses especially on material efficiency and the recyclability of its packaging to enhance the circular economy.

More sustainable raw materials and efficient processes are essential in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, so that we can respond to climate change and loss of biodiversity. Orion’s long-term work to promote green chemistry is reflected in its sustainable production methods and improved safety and cost-effectiveness. Patient safety is our priority in process development.

Orion’s environmental responsibility covers the entire chain, regardless of where raw materials and products are manufactured. Life-cycle thinking enables us to better identify which parts of the chain have the most significant environmental impacts and how we can reduce them.
